PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — In order to put a new face on the Woonasquatucket River Bridge, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is shifting traffic to the left on Route 6, west of the Hartford Avenue exit, starting Monday, May 20.

RIDOT is reducing travel lanes from three to two in both directions for about a quarter mile, according to the department’s Charles St. Martin. The eastbound lanes shift was in effect Monday while the westbound lanes will be shifted as of Tuesday, May 21.

The lane shift will be in place until the end of the year, when the lanes will be modified to shift to the right.

The entire rehabbing project is expected to be complete in spring 2021.
