Johnston man charged with DUI; held as bail violator

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Johnston man has been arrested for driving under the influence, Rhode Island State Police Colonel Steven O’Donnell announced Friday.

Police said they received several 911 calls around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, reporting an erratic driver on Route 146 in North Smithfield.

The driver, identified as Michael Vizzacco, 45, of Hopkins Avenue, was taken into custody after officers said he failed a series of field sobriety tests.

According to police, Vizzacco was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

He was arraigned and ordered held as a bail violator. According to police, Vizzacco struck a marked state police cruiser on June 1, injuring the officer. At the time he was also charged with DUI and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Vizzacco is due back in court June 25.
