PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The 7th Annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic was another rousing success as local Grammy winner Jeffrey Osborne and his famous friends raised money for local nonprofits.
It was a gorgeous day for golf Tuesday as celebrities such as Smokey Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Seema Sadekar, George Lopez, Johnnie Gill, Chris Tucker, and many more legendary musicians and athletes took part in a fundraising celebrity-amateur golf tournament at Lake of Isles Golf Club.
This year’s event, which was held July 29-31 at Foxwoods Resort Casino, also featured a comedy show and celebrity bowling competition.
The festivities kicked off Sunday with a welcome reception emceed by Ice Cube in the Foxwoods Grand Ballroom and concluded with the Charity Champions Dinner Gala, featuring live music by Osborne and his friends.
The winners of the 2018 Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic golf event was Team Jay Harris and Lee Elder with Kelly Sheehan, Michael Harris, Alex Beach and Michael Bradshaw. Second place went to Team Seema Sadekar with Rodney Butler, Daniel Menihan, and Maurice Jackson with a score of 54 on 18 holes.
Also on Sunday were the finals of the newly added Hand Me the Mic competition, the winner of which received $10,000, the opportunity to record a demo with Jay-Oh Productions and the possibility of auditioning with TV talent shows American Idol, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent. Talented 18-year-old singer Kay Kay Alexis from Nashua, New Hampshire, won the competition and performed for the guests during the dinner gala at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center.
To date, the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, Amos House, and St. Mary’s Home for Children.
