LUNENBURG, Mass. (WPRI) — A Massachusetts State Trooper is being recognized for rescuing an owl from a busy roadway.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, Trooper Joe Hall was returning from an event when he noticed an owl rolling around on Lancaster Avenue in Lunenburg.

Police said Hall pulled the owl out of the roadway, which he believed may have been stunned after being hit by a vehicle. He said the bird did not appear to be injured.

Hall then wrapped the owl up in his patrol coat and called animal control, but police said before animal control arrived the owl regained its senses and flew off into the woods.
