SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — One worker has died and another was injured when a temporary hoist fell off a building under construction in eastern Massachusetts.

The accident happened Thursday afternoon in Somerville at an administrative office building being built for Partners HealthCare.

A spokeswoman for the contractor, Suffolk Construction Co., says the two workers were employed by subcontractors. Their names haven’t been released. The spokeswoman says the injured worker is hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Suffolk Construction said in a statement that the workers were installing external hoists on the building when a hoist cab fell away from the building. The company says the workers were following all safety protocol at the time and it’s not clear what caused the accident.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
