Harp seal speeds towards ocean after release

News

MYSTIC, Conn. (WPRI) — A young harp seal couldn’t wait to jump back into the ocean Monday morning after being released by Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team.

“Woolf,” a yearling female harp seal, was released at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown. She was rescued by the Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team in Westerly. She received treatment at the clinic for multiple wounds and dehydration.

The Aquarium says, during her rehab, Woolf gained nearly 20 pounds.

After passing a series of routine “tests,” she was deemed healthy and prepared for life at sea.

The Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team anticipates more seals will be admitted in the coming months as harbor pup season is now in full swing.
