FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — That didn’t take long.

One day after announcing he would retire, Rob Gronkowski tweeted Monday that his retirement starts now.

The New England Patriots tight end Monday said, “I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010. My life experiences, relationships and championships over the last 9 years have been amazing!”

The all-pro announced his decision to retire over his official Instagram account Sunday.

Gronkowski spent his NFL career with the New England Patriots, a second-round pick in the 2010 draft.  He has three Super Bowl Championships with the Patriots.

“Rob will leave an indelible mark on the Patriots organization and the game as among the best, most complete players at his position to ever play,” Coach Bill Belichick said in a statement Sunday.
