Gorbea re-elected as RI secretary of state

Nellie Gorbea victory speech

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Democratic Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea has won re-election to serve a second term, Eyewitness News projects.

Gorbea defeated Republican Pat Cortellessa.

Gorbea defended her record, frequently citing her efforts to make it easier to vote in Rhode Island. She also had a massive financial advantage over Cortellessa, who argued Gorbea has not done enough to keep elections secure in the state.

Gorbea is barred by term limits from running again, so a new secretary of state will be elected in 2022.
