NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A suspect that was on Bristol County’s most wanted fugitive list for allegedly covering up a murder is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Police said they received several tips from the public that led to the arrest of 47-year-old John Medeiros who has been on the run since October 2017.

Medeiros was found by police Thursday morning hiding in a closet in a New Bedford apartment.

Police said Medeiros is accused of hiding evidence in connection to the death of 47-year-old Angel Camacho, who collapsed in the middle of the road and was found with a bruised face and several stab wounds 18 months ago.

According to police, 21-year-old David Antonetty-Almestica allegedly stabbed Camacho to death.

Medeiros is charged with accessory to murder after the fact and unarmed robbery and larceny from unrelated situations. He pleaded not guilty Friday in Superior Court and was ordered held without bail.
