COLUMBUS, Ohio (WPRI) — It was an abrupt and frustrating end to the basketball season for the Providence College Friars.

Turnovers, missed shots, and a technical foul on Head Coach Ed Cooley during a timeout, all contributed to a loss in PC’s opening round game against the Dayton Flyers.

The 6th seeded Friars entered the game as the favorites, but a heavily pro-Dayton crowd helped fuel the 11th seed to an easy 66-53 win in Columbus, OH, just 72 miles away from Dayton’s campus.

The wheels came off for the Friars in the second half, when Cooley, during a timeout, slammed a folding chair down, presumably in an effort to fire up his team, and was called for a controversial technical foul.

PC struggled following that call, committing several turnovers and missing several shots.

Senior forward, LaDontae Henton led the Friars with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Junior forward Dyshawn Pierre led Dayton with 20 points.

The Flyers move on to play #3 seed Oklahoma on Sunday.
