BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of an elderly Massachusetts man found dead aboard a sailboat that washed onto rocks near a park.
The Essex County district attorney’s office said Saturday that 76-year-old Alexander Sachs of Gloucester apparently suffered a “medical event” while sailing his boat, “Etoile.”
Beverly police said an officer and park visitors saw the 32-foot sailboat run aground near the city’s Lynch Park on Beverly Harbor just before 2 p.m. Friday.
Park visitor Barbara Czernuszka told The Salem News that it was scary watching the boat drift unattended toward shore and hit the rocks.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of Sachs’ death. No foul play is suspected.
