EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters tackled a late night house fire in East Providence Friday night.

Eyewitness News was on scene outside a home on Faith Street around 10:30 p.m.

Police cars, fire trucks and ambulances flooded the entire block leading up to the home.

Officials even used yellow tape to section off the scene that read “No parking” on it.

Officials said heavy fire and smoke in the basement led to three people suffering injuries.

“I just seen a whole lot of people breaking the windows, firefighters trying to get in, they ended up getting into the basement, they put out the smoke pretty much for the most part,” said Brittany Branco, a neighbor.

The fire chief tells us that the fire was put out rather quickly.

“There was one entrance to the basement and heavy fire was coming from the stairway,” said East Providence Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian. “It was pretty hot going into the basement, but they were able to knock it down within 10 to 15 minutes.”

The extent of the injuries to the three people are not known, but one suffered burn wounds and another smoke inhalation.

They also deemed the home uninhabitable, forcing it to be boarded up.
