NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters were called to a home on Haley Street in Newport Friday night for a reported fire.

Fire officials said that it started at about 7:30 in a first-floor kitchen.

The homeowner told Eyewitness News there were four people inside the building when the flames broke out, but everyone inside managed to get out unharmed. However, the home suffered extensive damage.

There were three units in the building, and although the damage was significant, the building does not need to be demolished. The Red Cross said that they were providing assistance to a family of two who were displaced.
