WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — The residents of a Westport home were forced out into the cold Tuesday after a fire broke out around 6:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived on Acushnet Avenue to find flames coming from the roof of the one-story, wood-frame home, according to Westport Fire Capt. Michael Silvia. He said it appeared the fire started in the bathroom ceiling and extended into the attic.

Everyone that was inside was able to escape to safety, Silvia said, and no injuries were reported.

Crews were able to confine the fire damage to the attic area but the rest of the home sustained moderate water and smoke damage. In all, Silvia said the home sustained an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
