PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Officials in Providence are investigating a fire on Linwood Avenue.

Flames broke out just before 9 pm Wednesday in a vacant home.

The fire chief told Eyewitness News that homeless people had been staying inside the home to get out of the cold, but no one was inside when firefighters went in.

The fire appears to have broken out on the second floor.

There were no injuries reported.

Officials are still searching for the cause.
