Fights break out at rally held outside the State House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Everything is clear outside of the State House after several fights broke out at a planned rally outside of the State House Saturday afternoon.

The Providence Freedom Rally was organized by a group called Resist Marxism. A group that goes by Proud Boys was at the rally also to support Resist Marxism.

The fights broke out between counter protesters and some people who identified themselves as Proud Boys. Right now it is not clear who started the fights.

There was a heavy police presence at the rally, in case it did become violent.

The Rhode Island State Police said there were no arrests and no one was seriously hurt.

They are, however, looking for a suspect who sprayed a fire extinguisher at a state trooper.
