PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) — The FBI says it’s investigating after a top Rhode Island high school’s website was hacked by someone who left a pro-Islamic State message.
Classical High School in Providence is a magnet school and one of the most prestigious high schools in the state. Its website was taken over Saturday by someone who said the site had been hacked by “Team System Dz” and messages including “I love jihad” and “I love isis.”
An FBI spokeswoman on Monday says they’re investigating. Providence schools spokeswoman Christina O’Reilly says city police are also investigating.
O’Reilly says no personal information was on the site, which was run by a private company.
“Well, the Classical principal heard a number of concerns from parents yesterday who thought that this may represent a threat or that thought that data may have been compromised. So we did send out a parentlink message, which is our automated phone system, last night – assuring families that this was not a threat made to the school. That we believe this was not directly targeted at the school. Rather just a nuisance happening that was intended to put this person or group’s political beliefs out in the light of the public,” O’Reilly told Eyewitness News
She says the site will stay down permanently because they previously planned to shut the site down and move the information to the district site.Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
