CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The family pet didn’t make it out of a Cranston house fire Saturday afternoon.

The fire department received a call around noon. The fire happened at a low ranch style house located at 955 Seven Mile Road in Western Cranston.

Cranston Fire Deputy Chief Paul Valletta confirmed to Eyewitness News that that five engines, two ladders, and a special hazards vehicle were on scene.

No people were hurt in the fire, but a dog did die.

“The house on fire was up a long driveway and hydrants are spaced out in that neighborhood, so fire crews had to use a longer hose,” explained Deputy Chief Valletta.

He said using the longer hose did not cause a major problem with fighting the fire.
