Fall River Police looking for a suspect in connection to assault and attempted abduction

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) – Police are searching for a suspect in connection with an assault and attempted abduction in Fall River.

The incidents happened on Friday on Peckham and East Main Streets.

Police say a 9-year-old girl reported that a man approached her in her yard on Peckham Street and told her he had candy in his van.

That van was black with a Hello Kitty sticker on the window.

The girl told officers that when she yelled he threw a knife at her, scratching her arm, and then fled on foot.

In another incident on Friday, outside the Tedeschi’s on East Main Street, an 18-year-old woman said a man asked to use her cell phone to make a call. She let him do so, but he began to walk away. She followed him and he then turned, put a knife to her neck and led her a few blocks away. She was eventually able to push him away and escape, and told police that he then got into a blue minivan that was following behind.

Fall River police said that the two incidents may have been perpetrated by the same suspect, who was described by both victims as a white man in his 20s, about 5′ 8” tall, wearing dark clothing. Anyone that has any information on either incident should call the Fall River Police Department at 508-324-2796.
