EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Hundreds of toys will get into the hands of needy children this holiday season thanks to the generosity of Eyewitness News viewers.
On Friday, local Marines stopped by our East Providence studios to pick up the donations that were dropped off over the past few weeks as part of the Toys for Tots campaign.
The Marines said they distributed toys to 3,000 families last year. This year, they’re helping 10,000 families make sure their children have a present to open on Christmas morning.
“It’s more than I expected, but it’s definitely what we need,” said Cpl. Carlos Gonzalez.
“This is really surprising to see how many people are willing to give and call for donations,” added Sgt. Kyle White. “Or call for, ‘hey, we want to volunteer,’ or just anything to help out.”
If you haven’t donated – there’s still plenty of time. You can drop off a new, unwrapped toy at our Eyewitness News studios on Catamore Boulevard weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Dec. 22.
If you don’t have time to make it to a store, you can make a monetary donation to Toys for Tots. Click here to donate »
