Explosion in Somerset injures three people Saturday


SOMERSET, Mass. (WPRI) – Police and fire officials responded to Fitzgerald Road in Somerset Saturday night, after a report of an explosion with injuries.

The Somerset Fire Department tells Eyewitness News a gas can or gas tank exploded, injuring three people.

The adults who were injured had poured gasoline onto a fire pit, causing the explosion.

Of the three adults injured, two refused to be taken to the hospital, and the third was transported. All had non-life threatening burns as a result of the explosion.

Somerset Police and Fire responded to the scene around 7 p.m. along with neighboring towns Swansea and Dighton.

A Somerset Police dispatcher confirmed the scene had cleared shortly after 8 p.m.

The fire did not spread as a result of the explosion.

The investigation by the Swansea Fire Department has concluded at this time.
