Employee in Providence tax assessor’s office suspended pending investigation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – An employee in Providence’s tax assessor’s office has been suspended without pay pending an investigation, Eyewitness News has learned.

Joseph Andujar, who works as a reader of deeds in the assessor’s office, was suspended on Sept. 15, according to Emily Crowell, a spokesperson for Mayor Jorge Elorza.

Crowell declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation. Andujar did not respond to a request for comment.

Payroll records show Andujar has worked for the city since June 2000 and is currently a member of Local 1033 of Laborers’ International Union. He earns $50,299 a year.

Ron Coia, the president of Local 1033, did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.
