Driver hurt in garbage truck crash in Marion

MARION, Mass. (WPRI) – The driver of a garbage truck was injured when the vehicle crashed  into the woods on I-195 Monday morning.

It happened around 10:15 a.m. east of Exit 19, in Marion.

It’s unclear what caused the truck to go off the side of the road but the truck came to rest on its side in the brush off the side of the highway.

The driver was hurt and taken to the hospital. The Marion Fire Department said it took first responders about an hour to extricate the driver from the truck. The driver’s injuries were not fatal.

The Marion Fire Department said there was garbage in the truck at the time of the crash.

Traffic slowed to a crawl along I-195 while crews worked at the scene which lasted for several hours.
