NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I (WPRI) — The woman accused of crashing her car head-on into a police cruiser appeared in court Thursday to face DUI charges.
A tearful Jillian Vega, 21, of North Providence, pleaded not guilty to felony charges of DUI involving bodily injury and driving to endanger resulting in personal injury during her arraignment at Kent County District Court.
Police said Vega, who turned 21 just six days ago, was driving with a blood alcohol content of .13. The legal limit is .08.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on Douglas Avenue, near Marconi Street, around 1 a.m. Firefighters said a black Jeep Wrangler crashed head-on into the police cruiser.
Eyewitnesses said it took rescue crews about 30 minutes to get the officer out of the vehicle.

The officer was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. North Providence police said the officer suffered broken bones and needed surgery.
Vega was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and her next court date is for April 18 in Providence Superior Court.
