LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WPRI) — Authorities in Massachusetts are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in a local bank robbery.
Lakeville police said Tuesday on their Facebook page that they are offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the man who terrorized tellers and customers at Bridgewater Savings Bank on Main Street Monday.
The holdup happened around 11:30 a.m. At one point, the suspect was seen holding a gun to an employee’s head as he demanded cash from another teller.
“He encounters another employee where [he] brandishes a firearm to the female and grabs her in a headlock and puts the gun to her head at that point while making demands,” Chief Frank Alvilhiera of the Lakeville Police Department said.
A bank employee said the man didn’t have a bag and instead put the money in his pockets.
No one was injured but employees and bank patrons were clearly shaken by the incident.
In a statement released Tuesday, the bank said:
“The robbery in our Lakeville Branch Office was very traumatic for the staff and customers who were there at the time of the event. The Lakeville staff performed extraordinarily well during a terrible situation.
This was an armed robbery where a weapon was shown and employees were threatened with harm. As you may imagine, this was upsetting to the customers and staff.
We are cooperating with local, state and federal law enforcement and the investigation is ongoing.”
In audio released by authorities, witnesses to the crime can be heard describing the suspect to the 911 dispatcher.
“He’s a black male, medium build, loose gray sweatpants, gray hoodie, and a lollipop sticking out of his mouth,” one customer said.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call Lakeville police immediately.
