MAUI, HI (KHON) — Dozens of cruise ship passengers have been quarantined on Maui after a norovirus outbreak.

The Star Princess is currently docked at Lahaina and according to the Department of Health, about 30 people are quarantined in their rooms.

Health officials said the virus originated in San Francisco and passengers are being checked at least twice a day.

A spokeswoman for Princess Cruises said the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was notified and staff thoroughly cleaned common areas, including elevator buttons and stairway railings.

There are about 4,000 passengers and crew members on board.
