Don’t get caught up in holiday shopping hype

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — With Christmas Eve just two days away, last-minute shoppers are running out of time.

Some retailers are catering to procrastinators, but Call 12 For Action did some digging and found out that you may not want to give into that hype.

The deadline for standard mail Christmas deliveries has passed. But that doesn’t mean purchases will stop.

Consumer psychologist Kit Yarrow said that, thanks to the internet, consumers have a 24/7 shopping mentality.

“A lot of retailers find it’s not profitable, it just guarantees consumer loyalty,” Yarrow said. “It makes them the store of choice.”Experts recommend several tips to ensure you don’t get caught up in the holiday hype:

  • Stick to your shopping list. If you had a list, don’t suddenly think you need to buy more items.
  • Don’t forget the everyday bills. Remember those need to be paid – and being late could cause serious consequences.
  • Don’t panic.
