PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Friends have started an online fundraiser for Providence firefighter Matthew Gallant.
Their goal is to raise $10,000 to buy Gallant a new truck, after he was involved in a serious head-on hit and run crash in Providence on October 24. It took Gallant’s fellow firefighters approximately 30 minutes to cut him free from the wreck, and he continues to recover at the hospital.
The man police say caused the crash, Lee Carrazana, surrendered two days later. At his arraignment, bail was set at $35,000 for the hit and run case. However, he was ordered held without bail as a Superior Court violator.
Donations for a new truck for Gallant will be accepted through November 18. Organizers of the fundraiser say any leftover money will go toward his medical expenses.
