TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The discussion continued Monday on the proposed Tiverton Glen Project — a plan that could potentially bring a mall to the town.
A town council hearing started July 7 and continued Monday at Tiverton High School. Officials said so many people wanted to speak about the project that the hearing agenda was expanded.
Most of the speakers said they’re worried about the impact the complex might have on the community.
“This is Tiverton. It’s not Warwick and it’s not Cranston. This is a Warwick and Cranston-sized development. It may be appropriate there but I think it’s totally inappropriate in Tiverton,” said Martin Van Haf, who is against the development.
“One needs only to look around to see the vast amount of unleased retail space within the state and surrounding towns to know that brick and mortar retail is on the decline,” added Beth Clark.
Representatives for the developer, Carpionato Development Group, said the project will include stores, offices, restaurants, a hotel and apartments.
