DARTMOUTH, MASS (WPRI) — Massachusetts Republican Governor Charlie Baker was joined by Democratic State Representative Chris Markey on the campaign trail at a Dartmouth business Tuesday.
The family-owned Dartmouth Building Supply company hosted Baker, Markey and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito for a walking tour around their supply yard and detailed the products they sell to suppliers.
Markey touted the business as an example of the American dream and why their success is one of the reasons he is supporting Baker for re-election.
“I’m sure there will be people who are disappointed in me for supporting a Republican, but if there is ever a time where it actual needs to show people that it works, Massachusetts is showing that in the last four years,” Markey said. “I really believe that Governor Baker has done exactly that — he hasn’t gone into the partisan rhetoric that is everywhere else but here.”
Markey explained the discourse between the “far left and far right” does not accomplish much, saying Baker is able to see the important issues and work with his colleagues across the aisle.
Baker said he has focused his administration on working in a bipartisan manner and believes it’s an effective way of governing.
Baker is facing is Democrat Jay Gonzalez in the race for Massachusetts governor.
