DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Dartmouth have arrested a New Bedford man after receiving a report he was beating a dog inside a vehicle with a baseball bat.

Investigators were called to the scene near Colonial Way just before 7 p.m. Friday night.

When officers arrived and spoke with the person inside the vehicle regarding the reported abuse, they determined that 50-year-old Gregory Ostiguy did indeed strike his dog with a baseball bat.

Ostiguy was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals.

The dog was transported to a local vet, where it was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
