Crowds evacuated during basketball game at URI

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – A brief scare for crowds at the University of Rhode Island’s Ryan Center Saturday as they were evacuated.

URI campus police confirm to Eyewitness News the Ryan Center was briefly evacuated after the building’s heating ventilation and air conditioning system malfunctioned.

South Kingstown Police dispatch said they sent fire South Kingstown fire crews to respond to the scene. Video sent in to Eyewitness News showed crowds waiting patiently outside.

The Ryan Center is hosting the Rhode Island championships high school basketball finals this weekend.
