PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – One man is in custody as Providence police investigate two stabbings in downtown early Friday morning.
Yokendry Carmona, 24, was arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred around 1 a.m. at the corner of Orange and Weybosset Streets, according to Major David Lapatin. A male victim was slashed in the lower back. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with what police say are not life-threatening injuries.
Lapatin said police are investigating whether Carmona was also involved in a stabbing inside Hanley’s Ale House around the same time Friday.
Police say a man was on the dance floor at Hanley’s when he was slashed in the backside. He was taken to Miriam Hospital for treatment.
“He felt some pressure in his buttocks area,” Lapatin said. “He went into the men’s room to check. It looked to him that he had a wound, probably about three inches long.”
Lapatin said police recovered a knife that will be tested to determine whether Carmona was responsible for the stabbing.
