Police charge man with murder of missing Fall River woman


CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A homicide investigation in Cranston led to the arrest of a Cranston man for the murder of a missing Fall River woman.

Early on the morning of Friday, April 7, police recovered a woman’s body at 9 Preston Avenue, as a part of the ongoing investigation. Officials identified the woman as 29-year-old Krystal Boswell.

Police received a tip on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 5 and have since arrested James Lombardi, 32, of 45 Wakefield Avenue, Cranston and charged him with first-degree murder.

According to police, Lombardi murdered Boswell and buried her several feet underground at the 9 Preston Avenue home. Detectives also learned that Lombardi had recently done construction work at this home and was seen digging a hole in the yard on the morning of Sunday, April 2.

Boswell and Lombardi left Fall River together during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 1, reports say.

A search warrant of Lombardi’s address, 45 Wakefield Avenue, was executed on the morning of Thursday, April 6.

Eyewitness News was on scene at 45 Wakefield Avenue while a taxi was towed out of the driveway by authorities.

Police and the state medical examiner were seen investigating at 9 Preston Ave. late on Thursday, April 6, and parts of the back and side yards had been dug up.

According to workers outside the home on Friday, the owner is out of town. A neighbor and a family member of the former owner both stated that the house was undergoing renovations so it could be sold on the market again.

Lombardi was arrested without incident the morning of Friday, April 7, from an apartment complex at 81 Spring Street in Lincoln. He will be held without bail pending a formal arraignment on Monday, April 10.

Colonel Winquist stated in a news release:

“The loss of this young woman is tragic. On behalf of the men and woman of the Cranston Police Department, we offer our sincerest condolences to Ms. Boswell’s entire family and her friends. I want to commend the investigators from the Cranston Police Department, Rhode Island State Police and Fall River Police Department, as well as prosecutors from the Rhode Island Department of Attorney General, for their tireless efforts throughout this investigation. They worked continuously over the past three days to locate Krystal and apprehend the person allegedly responsible for her murder. It was truly a team effort.”
