NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) – A kayaker was rescued from a seawall along Goat Island after suffering from fatigue.

According to the Newport Fire Chief Brian Dugan, crews were called to the scene around 3 p.m. Sunday to reports of a fatigued kayaker.

Dugan said first responders found the kayaker hanging from the seawall near the Americas Building. Crews were able to secure the kayaker to the seawall while a fire boat was dispatched to the scene to rescue him.

According to Dugan, a swimmer helped bring the kayaker safely onto the rescue boat. They brought the kayaker to the Elm Street Pier where he was released.
