WILLIAMSPORT, Penn. (WPRI) — The Warwick North softball team fell in a heartbreaker Wednedsay night, just as another Rhode Island team’s championship chase is about to begin.

Representing New England, Cranston Western took part in the Grand Slam Parade Wednesday night in Williamsport as they gear up for their Little League World Series debut.

The tournament will begin Friday after opening ceremonies, and the boys will face South Carolina in their first game.

The boys defeated New Hampshire 10-4 Sunday to secure their spot.

Cranston Western previously played in the Little League World Series in 1996. That team won the U.S. championship, but fell to Chinese Taipai in the international finals.

Eyewitness News reporter Perry Russom is also in Williamsport, and will have live reports starting Thursday.
