COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — The Coventry Police Department is using social media to help motivate kids who are heading back to school this week.

Watch the department’s “Back to School” video below

Officer AJ Medeiros and School Resource Officer Paul Pacheco starred in a video posted to the department’s Facebook page, welcoming all Coventry students back to school.

In the video, Medeiros – acting as a parent – attempts to wake Pacheco – acting as a student – up for the first day of school.

“First day of school, come on!” Medeiros says to Pacheco, turning on the bedroom light.

“Dad… I don’t wanna go!” Pacheco yells from under the covers.

When Pacheco finally gets out of bed, Medeiros critiques his outfit, asking why he’s wearing his hat backwards and making sure his “son” ties his shoes properly.

The video, which the department’s Facebook post says is supposed to be funny, also has an important message for students heading back to school.

At the end of the video, Medeiros and Pacheco take turns sharing advice for students, and the pair also says if anyone needs to talk about something, they are always available.

So far, the post has nearly 800 shares and more than 100 comments.
