WILLIAMSPORT, PA (WPRI) — The championship chase may be over for the Coventry Little League, but their time in Williamsport is not.
On Monday, the team will play a consolation game against an international team before heading back home to Rhode Island.
“Getting a chance to come play here and watching other teams from New England coming back and playing again, and hopefully watching the ten year olds play here,” Player Dylan Mourao said. He is hoping for a Coventry “Dynasty.”
“What 12 to 13 year old doesn’t want to be here?” Rich Mourao, Dylan’s father, said.
After a heartbreaking loss to Iowa, Manager Lou Simon reflected on their amazing time in Williamsport.
“They’ll remember each other. They’ve spent so much time hanging out with each other in the dorms. They’ll remember the field, playing the game, but the biggest thing will be each other and they’re running around the pool rec center,” Simon said.
“Just an experience they’ll never forget, that it’s a pretty awesome ride for them,” Rich Mourao said.
“Every single one of them has grown as a person, into a man. I think looking back that’s the thing I am most proud of, is to see these boys grow from players, 12-year-old little league players into 13-year-old boys, men that showed up here to play,” Simon said.
Now that the boys have had a chance to hang out with their family and friends, there’s still one more game. A consolation game will be played against Australia at 11 a.m. on Monday.
