Coventry Little League game to be played Sunday following rain cancellation

News

BRISTOL, Conn. (WPRI) — The Northeastern Championship game in the Little League World Series Tournament between Coventry and Pittsfield, Mass. was canceled Saturday because of rain. The game will now be played Sunday at 10 a.m.

Rhode Island made it to the New England Regional Championship with a dramatic come from behind win over the team from New Hampshire.

They were down 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth before starting a come back that ended with Tommy Turner driving in the final two runs, giving his team the win, 6-5.

Coventry cruised through their first two games, beating both Connecticut and Vermont 10-0.

They then faced the team they are playing today, Pittsfield American, and lost 9-1.

Pittsfield has not lost in the tournament. Coventry is looking to put a stop to that and head to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series.

Eyewitness News Sports reporter Ruthie Polinsky is in Bristol covering the team and will have updates on Eyewitness News and on wpri.com.
