WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WPRI) — Coventry Little League lost 3-1 to Houston during their first game in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
A rain delay didn’t dampen the spirits of fans in the crowd as the teams cleared the field following a strong top of first inning by Coventry.
Once the rain delay was over, Jake Mather made it home after Houston’s pitcher slipped on some wet grass giving Coventry the early lead of 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning.
Houston was quick to catch up however, scoring three unanswered runs and Houston’s pitcher ending the game with a strike out.
Coventry will face Iowa Saturday in an elimination game at 3 p.m.
Hours before the game, the boys took part in opening ceremonies, where they marched with their New England Championship banner as crowds cheered them on.
