Convicted child rapist arrested in Massachusetts

News

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A convicted child rapist, who sparked outrage when he moved into one Massachusetts neighborhood, has been arrested as a fugitive from justice.

The US Marshal’s office says Richard Gardner violated his terms and conditions of his recent release from jail.

He was originally sentenced to 190 years in prison in Rhode Island, for sexually assaulting and kidnapping children in the early 1990’s.

He was released early on appeal.

Earlier this week, the mother of one of his victims issued a strong warning to residents of the Weymouth neighborhood where Gardner was living.

He is due in court on Monday.
