Clinton campaign kicks off in Rhode Island

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The RI Democratic Party kicked of their campaign in the ocean state with a rally Saturday morning.

Democratic party chair Joe McNamara, along with Governor Gina Raimondo, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, and other Democratic federal, state and city leaders were all present for the event at the headquarters on the 200 Block of Metro Center Boulevard in Warwick.

Governor Raimondo spoke to the crowd of volunteers promising, “What you do today really matters. Your work matters. Getting out there, knocking on doors, hitting the phones, talking to people, pursuading voters, getting them to vote.”

Volunteer Hilary Levey-Friedman also weighted in on why she was helping out. “We’ve seen in previous elections that one single vote matters. And what would we think if we woke up the day after the election and we didn’t do our part no matter how small,” she said.

Anthony DeRose, another volunteer, explained that he believes some people just need a better understanding of the issues. “If you can reach just one more person that may be on the face and you can provide them with the right information and not sometimes what is spewed or skewered by different campaigns, I think if you just give them the time to educate them and that person is willing to listen to you, that’s one person that may change their mind,” he added.

The Trump/Pence headquarters is on Post Road also in Warwick, sharing space with the Rhode Island Republican party.

Eyewitness News has reached out to the Trump press office but has not yet received a response.

Brandon Bell of the Rhode Island Republican party said that the headquarters opened in August and they have 100 volunteers.
