PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A rollover crash on I-195 eastbound Sunday afternoon caused traffic to be backed up for miles.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. at Exit 2 and closed all travel lanes, according to RIDOT.
Rhode Island State Police Sgt. Simon Liu said a 2015 Subaru traveling eastbound was cut off and struck by a van, causing the Subaru to rollover multiple times.
None of the four occupants of the Subaru were ejected from the vehicle. They were all transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to state police, the van fled the scene of the crash, and was picked up two to three miles away on Purchase Street in East Providence.
State police are questioning the person they believe to be the driver of the van, and are still looking for the second occupant who is believed to be the van’s passenger.
It is not immediately clear why the van fled from the scene of the crash, but state police said charges against the driver are pending.
Traffic had to be diverted from the area until around 3 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
