Carjacking, robberies prompt police chase through five communities

TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — A Taunton man was arrested Friday after allegedly carjacking a woman, attempting two robberies, and then leading police on a chase through several towns.

According to Taunton police, 40 year-old Bruno Tinoco carjacked a woman at about 1:15 p.m. Friday on Broadway. The victim was not hurt, but Bruno escaped with her vehicle.

Four minutes later, police received a holdup alarm from Walt’s Auto at 289 Broadway, just a short distance away. Bruno fled that location, apparently failing to get anything from the business, and drove into Raynham, police said.

Just minutes later, he allegedly attempted to rob a CVS at 252 Broadway in Raynham, and again fled in the stolen vehicle.

Two Taunton police officers spotted the vehicle on Bay Street near 495, but Bruno refused to stop and then got on 495 North, beginning a police pursuit that passed through Easton, Norton, Mansfield, North Attleboro, and eventually ended up back in Taunton.

According to police, Bruno crashed in the area of 60 Short Street and was arrested.

Police are charging him with armed carjacking, armed robbery, failure to stop for police and operating to endanger.

Investigators also charged him with the alleged armed robbery of a Walgreens at 57 Winthrop Street, which occurred Monday.
