PLAINVILLE, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Plainville are investigating a crash that destroyed a home’s garage.
Police said that a pickup truck was heading north on Route 1 at about 9 p.m. when it veered into the southbound lanes and struck a utility pole. Witnesses said it appeared the truck lost control before the crash.
The truck snapped the pole in half, hit some parked cars, and a slammed into the garage of a home. That garage collapsed on impact.
“The occupant, as I tried to approach, was trying to exit the vehicle,” a man who heard the crash told Eyewitness News. “I told him that he needs to stay in the vehicle, to stay put, to not move. His vehicle was holding up what was left of the structure, of the garage that had broken down.”
The two people in the car were reportedly taken from the scene by ambulance; Plainville police said one person had been taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment but declined to release any other information.
A woman was home at the time watching television when the truck slammed into the garage; she said if her vehicle hadn’t been parked there the truck probably would have gone right through the wall of the home, just a few feet from where she had been sitting.
