PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Rhode Island State Police responded to a car accident on Interstate 95 southbound in Pawtucket early Saturday morning after the operator crashed onto the nearby train tracks.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. Saturday morning just before exit 25.
Corporal Peter Filuminia tells Eyewitness News speed was a factor in this crash which sent the sole occupant of the vehicle, the 23-year-old male driver, to the hospital complaining of pain.
Corporal Filuminia says the driver was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a high-speed barrier, hit the right side curb on I-95 south, passed through the chain link fence on the side of the highway, and drove onto the Amtrak train tracks.
The driver has not yet been cited and the crash is still under investigation by the Rhode Island State Police.
