Car crashes into guardrail on Fall River highway

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) – Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene after a car crashed into a guardrail on Route 79 northbound Saturday.

Troopers from the Dartmouth barracks responded to the crash in Fall River around 6:15 p.m.

According to Mass. State Police Trooper Dustin Fitch, the 67-year-old driver from Swansea was still trapped in the car when rescue crews arrived on scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Trooper Fitch told Eyewitness News the driver of the 2004 Buick Sport SUV, who drove into the guardrail, was conscious and alert when rescue crews arrived. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and there are currently no charges pending against the driver.

The crash was cleared by just after 7:30 p.m. and there were no reports of any traffic build-up as a result of the crash.
