SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) — Fire crews were called to a Seekonk shopping plaza Thursday after a car caught fire in the parking lot.
The owner of the car, Cheryl Weston of East Providence, said she was driving with her husband when they noticed white smoke coming out of the back of her car. That’s when they decided to pull into the Golfsmith parking lot off of Route 6.
“Black smoke started coming in the interior at us; we jumped out,” she explained. “And then it just burst into flames.”
Weston said the car, a 2013 Toyota RAV4, has been serviced regularly. She said she can’t believe something like this happened but she’s happy to have escaped the flames unharmed.
“But it’s life. And we’re okay, that’s what the important thing is,” she said.
