Step #1
Start Early
-
Finding the right day care option for your child can take some time.
-
Start looking in advance so you can find the right fit for you. If you’re pregnant, start before you have your baby.
-
You don’t want to make a rushed decision.
Step #2
Make a Call
Call local child care experts, like the RI Dept. of Children, Youth and Families, to find out local day care licensing requirements.
Step #3
Visit & Ask Questions
-
Visit the day care options you are considering and ask questions about adult to child ratio, group size, caregiver qualifications, day care provider turnover and accreditation.
Step #4
Make a Choice
-
Once you’ve visited different providers, compare what you’ve seen and make the best choice for your child and family.
Step #5
Stay Involved
-
Meet regularly with and ask questions of your day care provider.
-
Offer to volunteer time when needed.
-
Visit for child’s birthday or to read a book to the children.
