JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Marc Sredojevic racked up three hits, but the Brown baseball team fell at North Florida, 7-3, in the opener of a four-game set on Friday at Harmon Stadium.
Brown moves to 1-6 overall, while North Florida improves to 11-8 on the season.
In addition to Sredojevic, junior Kevin Guthrie (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Robert Henry (Cranston, R.I.) also had multiple hits with two apiece. Senior Dave St. Lawrence (Thompson, Conn.) started and took the loss for the Bears, allowing five runs over five innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Jake Spezial (Hackensack, N.J.) allowed two runs over three innings in relief. Tyler Moore picked up the win for the Ospreys as he gave up one earned run over six innings.
North Florida put up steady offense to start the game as the Ospreys scored one run in each of the first five innings. Brown jumped on the board in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, when Guthrie and Sredojevic hit back-to-back RBI singles to pull the Bears within three, 5-2.
After Donnie Dewees homered in the bottom of the sixth, the Bears answered back again with one run in the top of the seventh, as Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) drove in Henry with a groundout to second.
Brown threatened in the eighth when Guthrie and Sredojevic led off with consecutive singles, and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, but Corbin Olmstead came in from the bullpen and got three straight outs to halt the rally and secure the win.
Brown and North Florida continue the four-game set on Saturday with a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m.
